This division is for players aged 7 & 8 year olds though on occasion a well skilled 6 year old that has outgrown the mini-mite program will play in this division. The DBYHL normally offers a house and extra-ice program for this level. The house program will practice once per week and play a total of 12 games throughout the season. A minimum of 6 games will be played out of the Kettering Rec Center. Our house teams play in the Greater Dayton Youth Hockey league (GDYHL) along with teams from Butler County, Springboro, and Troy and other Bombers teams. This league stresses fun, recreation, development of skills, and good sportsmanship. Games will utilize a 2:00 minute shift buzzer were players on the ice will be changed for the next set of players.
The extra-ice program starts after the season has started. All players interested in playing on this team are able to do so. Extra-ice teams are generally more competitive, more aggressive and their skills have developed to allow them to compete at this higher level. They will generally play teams from outside the area and travel with possible over night stays. They will practice at least 2 times per month and play, games and tournaments as the team decides. Generally are travel teams will play teams from Cincinnati along with teams from Indiana, Kentucky & Ohio. There is an additional fee to play on this team. Ask your coach for more details.
For the 2008 - 2009 season the mite level is for children born in 2000 or 2001.
