Program News and Notes
Our Program. We offer a program for children of all ages beginning at 4 and continuing through age 16.
Instructional Program -- This division is for players that are between 5 and 9 yrs old. This is a beginner hockey program were the players will practice at least once per week over the season. The emphasis is placed on skill development, skating, stick handling, passing and shooting.
House/Rec Program -- We offer teams at the Mite, Squirt, and Peewee levels. Our teams play in the Greater Dayton Youth Hockey League (GDYHL). This league stresses fun, recreation, development of skills, and good sportsmanship.
Travel and Independent Program -- We offer teams that compete in the Buckeye Travel League and the Midwest Ohio Bantam League. This year we will have a Peewee travel team, a Midget travel team that will compete in the Buckeye Travel League. We will have at least two or as many as three Bantam teams, depending on registration numbers. The DBYHL will roster a bantam team competing in the MOBL as well as scheduling other games. The DBYHL is also collaborating with the Springboro organization to field up to two additional teams at the Bantam level. These teams will also compete in the MOBL and schedule additional games. Visit our website for contact information.
Fun Stuff: We have worked these past few years to make the DBYHL a family-oriented program. We skate with Centerville High School players in the Americana Parade on the 4th of July. Many of our DBYHL Teams have made trips to skate with the Dayton Bombers, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Thanks to the coaches and volunteers who organize these trips!!!
Fees: We get questions about fees and how they are set. The board has worked hard to design a program that meets all our needs. Typically 87% of the fees we charge are directly related to taking the ice. The rest is to make the program work.
Growth: This year we offered an IP program at South Metro in Centerville to better service the south Dayton and north Cinci communities.
Get involved! Volunteer to be a team parent, coach or board member!
